Interview with The Family CEO Blog

This is the 9th in a series of interviews HelpYourMoney.com is doing of other personal finance bloggers.

An Interview with The Family CEO of the The Family CEO Blog :

1. First, can you please introduce yourself and tell us why your started your personal finance blog?

I am a 41 year-old, married mother of 2 from the Midwest. I am primarily a stay-at-home-mom, although I have do a little work from home. Prior to having children I worked in the human resources/employee benefit industry. My degree is in Business Administration. My husband is self-employed. He has his own insurance agency and I help him with payroll, bookkeeping, etc.

I have a long standing interest in personal finance. When I discovered personal finance blogs I was in heaven! I decided to start my own to document my efforts to save money, earn money, and basically run our family finances. Hence the name, The Family CEO.

2. Do you feel you are on the right track to reaching your financial goals and what are they?

I think we’re on the right track, although we’re not where we want to be. Our primary objective at the present is to pay off debt. And, like everyone, we’re concerned with retirement and putting our children through college.

3. Do you work in the financial industry? If so, do you want to share where? N/A

4. If you had to recommend just one financial related book, what would it be?

I’m a big fan of Dave Ramsey’s The Total Money Makeover.

5. If you had to recommend just one financial related magazine, what would it be?

Probably Money magazine. I enjoy their family profiles.

6. If you had to recommend just one or two financial related websites (besides your own and that is not a blog), what would it be?

I like The Motley Fool’s message boards. Other than that I don’t visit many financial websites.

7. What is one of the WORST financial related decisions you ever made?

Probably our decision to take on debt other than a mortgage. When we got married in the 1980’s, debt was readily available everywhere and we didn’t really understand all the implications. While we’ve never had a problem paying our bills, our debt load keeps us from doing everything we’d like to do financially now.

8. What is one of the BEST financial related decisions you ever made?

Our decision to get rid of debt. It’s slow going at times but we have a different mindset now.

9. Do You Trade Individual Stocks and If so recommend your favorite 3 to 5 picks?

We don’t trade in individual stocks. All mutual funds for us.

10. If you could give our readers just one financial related tip, what would it be?

Live beneath your means.

11. Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?
