Medicare Part D Should Be On Your To Do List
Medicare Part D’s deadline just ran out. Consider joining up (either yourself or someone who you care about who is retired) before the Next Deadline!
People are living longer and longer. And for many, the real issue is not just the doctor’s visits when it comes to healthcare. It is the cost of the medications that are needed.
Unfortunately, many people only have the standard medicare or some other primary insurance that provides little, if any, benefit for prescriptions.
If you or someone you know is in that position, it might make sense for you to check up on some of the options that are available to you online at the medicare website: www.medicare.gov that might help save some money.
Medicare Part D is the prescription drug coverage that is available for qualified participants in the Medicare program so that they can reduce the costs of their drug coverage. This means that there is less money needed to cover this portion of the health care expenses.
In order to do this, there is a trade off of time. The time factor comes in when these deadlines arise, like the one that just passed. In order to make sure that you are getting the most for your money, you must do some comparison shopping to determine if it makes sense to have one carrier for this coverage over another.
There are also separate secondary carriers that provide additional secondary coverage outside of the Medicare Part D program. Depending on your current and projected expenses, it might make sense to look at these as well.
Fortunately, the Medicare website makes it easy to determine who has the best coverage and therefore it becomes manageable for the average person to figure out what the best deal is. With a simple wizard and nice charts that detail the costs over the entire year and even some explanations of the costs, it becomes a process of time and reading to find the best deal.
Does This Insurance Make Cents?
Choosing a carrier for this coverage is a simple matter of dollars and cents. The goal, with anything, is to pay the least amount possible for an equal good—the insurance coverage, saving dollars and cents. However, like any type of good, it is easy to pay more than you should, or buy more than you need. Therefore, I tried to figure out if it was worth it for just a couple of drugs: one a little more esoteric of a drug – and the other a more common one. By doing this experiment, I hoped to find out if it makes sense for a person that doesn’t require many medications to enroll in this program.
Developing Precognition.
Precognition—the ability to see the future before it happens—is problematic and difficult at best. But you’d better be good at it when it comes to insurance hunting. If you are healthy and opt to skip the coverage, you could develop a major illness and then really need the coverage. Conversely, you could buy it if you are not ill and then end up wasting your monthly premium.
Subtract Your Deductible:
With various limits and deductibles, the important thing to realize is that the amount you will be responsible for will change throughout the year; this can normally make it difficult to budget. But the Medicare site actually helps here. It shows you the costs when you are in and when you are out of your deductible period and even what the costs are during the “gap” period.
Being aware of your deductible costs and the total costs of the medications provides the ability to accurately determine the costs of your drugs and see if Part D is right for you, or an older adult close to you.
Here’s to a healthy and Happy New Year!
