Hack Your Hybrid – How does 100 MPG Sound?
Online startup companies EDrive and Hymotion will be selling Hack-a-Hybrid kits known as PHEV kits (plug-in hybrid electrical vehicle) for the Toyota Prius. Pete Norman’s (owner of EDrive) modified Toyota Prius gets about 100 Miles per Gallon!
At the moment it’s not exactly worth the cost with the EDrive kit coming out in December with a price tag of $12,000 with installation and Hymotion kit at about $12,500. However with time the price for this kit should steadily drop. Hymotion hopes to drop the price for their kit to around $6500 in about another year.
At this time, these Hack-a-Hybrid kits seem to be only available for the Prius but I expect they will soon be making them for all sort of Hybrid vehicle models. To bad the big car maker are not making these types of PHEV vehicles already. It’s a long term goal of both EDrive and Hymotion.
