Jed writes, “the biggest mistake I ever made with my own retirement is that I never really understood what it meant to contribute more early on. As smart as I was, I never realized the positive-side impact of compound interest in a 401k or IRA. Therefore, I never put more than 4 or 5 percent in for the first 5 years of working. Putting just a little more in during these years would have been the best thing I could have ever done for myself. It would have been far far better than putting more in now. But I am stuck with what I know now, and therefore I am aggressively changing it as fast as I can.”
