Making Cents out of College (Part 1 of 2)

A new study released about Massachusetts high-school graduates indicates that the real value of college is being wasted by many. The article describes the landscape for many college grads. It is a landscape of high expectations, sats and act standardized tests (similar to other schools nationwide) and also a requirement of statewide assessment tests in the form of MCAS. These tests provide benchmarks that students must pass in order to graduate and thereby get in to college.

My, What a BIG Endowment You Have…

Until very recently, I was not very interested in money when it came to college. After all, I was already gone and graduated with my degree. So the only way that college and college money impacted me was the student loans that I now have to come up with each month. The reality is that college costs are rising and like any other cost that you need to figure out, comparison shopping is the only way to go. However, one thing that should be considered in addition to some of the other considerations like location, availability of majors, and proximity to other important resources related to one’s field of study, I would also say that it is important to consider how big the school’s endowment is.

Be Smart: Save For College

Each month I sift through my bills and wonder when I’ll stop receiving a statement from my student loan lender. When I graduated from college, I looked ahead to my future feeling confident. Then reality hit. I realized that I had thousands of dollars to pay back for my education. How would I pay it? How could I live with this debt? Would my children be heading off to college when I finally paid it off?
